My doctor stated it was a combination for me of:

a) wanting and being willing to engage in the social rituals of the neurotypical world, which i’m pretty bad at. this is a fact of reality for me that isn’t often there for other nd people, since my job involves fundraising and public affairs which is all about getting NT people to like you. so, i don’t have the ability to opt out of social rituals the way other people do.

the secondary answer was that i have symptoms that allude to savant syndrome for software / product development, given that i’m able to design a product as a concept, as a UI/UX interface, program and launch it, and so on. that’s pretty much the work of an entire technical team, and each are arenas of knowledge in their own areas.

i’m not sure that i agree with the doctor’s assessment that it’s unusual, but in his opinion it comes from the fact i put my first app out at 13 and got my first CTO position at 21, and continue to try to become an entire tech company in one person (including fundraising / appeasing neurotypicals).
